This is why it’s often smart to enable guest checkout on your eCommerce site. But, there are some drawbacks. You won’t have access to valuable customer data, such as order history and preferences. This limits your ability to conduct targeted marketing campaigns or gain insights into what buyers are looking for.
When you register users at checkout, you create a more streamlined shopping experience. It can increase customer loyalty and satisfaction with your store and convert more sales.
Registered users can access their customer account page to view order history and manage payments and billing/shipping addresses. This reduces friction in the checkout process and makes it easier for them to buy from your store in the future.
How to Auto-Register Users at Checkout in WordPress

Stap 1: Installeer Easy Digital Downloads
If you currently or plan to use WordPress for your online store, you’ll need an eCommerce plugin. A popular choice is WooCommerce.
But if you’re selling digital products or downloads, the best solution is the Easy Digital Downloads (EDD) plugin:
Easy Digital Downloads lets you create and manage an eCommerce site in WordPress. You can use it to add, sell, and track online digital downloads and sales with ease.
It also comes equipped with a full shopping cart and checkout system, support for multiple payment gateways, tracking and reporting features, and much more.
There is a free version available. I recommend grabbing at least an Extended Pass, though. This gives you access to a wide variety of premium extensions that help expand and enhance your eCommerce store.
Once you buy your plan, you can go to your EDD account dashboard. Then click on Get Easy Digital Downloads under File Downloads:
Next, upload the Easy Digital Downloads plugin to your WordPress website (Plugins » Add New » Upload Plugin):

Stap 2: Voeg de Auto Register-extensie toe
Nu gaan we de Auto Register-extensie installeren:
Deze premium add-on, inbegrepen bij betaalde abonnementen, vereenvoudigt de gebruikersregistratie. Meestal nemen winkel eigenaren de accountregistratie en/of inlogformulieren op de afrekenpagina op:
Dit standaard sjabloon is een goede manier om gebruikers in staat te stellen in te loggen of een nieuw account aan te maken. Maar het kan de afrekenpagina een beetje lang en onhandig maken. De formuliervelden zijn een beetje overbodig.
Auto Register elimineert deze stap. Het gebruikt automatisch bestaande gegevens om een WordPress-gebruikersaccount aan te maken bij het afrekenen. Gastgebruikers hoeven geen extra formuliervelden in te vullen voor hun accountaanmaak. Het gebruikersregistratieformulier is in wezen ingebouwd in de checkout.
Hun e-mailadres, dat altijd nodig is bij het afrekenen, wordt hun gebruikersnaam. Een willekeurig accountwachtwoord wordt automatisch gegenereerd. EDD stuurt deze inloggegevens per e-mail naar de klant zodra ze hun aankoop hebben voltooid:
Ga om te beginnen naar Downloads » Extensies » Alle. Scroll op de EDD Extensies-pagina naar Auto Register en selecteer Nu downloaden:
Upload vervolgens de Auto Register-plugin naar uw WordPress-site. Vergeet niet deze te activeren.
Stap 3: Configureer Checkout & Auto Register-instellingen
Eenmaal geactiveerd, voegt de Easy Digital Downloads-plugin automatisch een Afrekenpagina toe aan uw e-commerce website (Pagina's » Afrekenen):
Als u een nieuwe aangepaste afrekenpagina maakt of wilt wijzigen welke als Primaire afrekenpagina moet worden gebruikt, kunt u naar Downloads » Instellingen » Pagina's gaan:
Zodra u Auto Register installeert en activeert, kunt u de instellingen configureren. Ga naar Downloads » Instellingen » Extensies en klik vervolgens op Auto Register:
Er zijn drie selectievakje-instellingen:
U kunt:
- Gebruikers-e-mail uitschakelen als u gebruikers niet automatisch hun inloggegevens wilt e-mailen
- Adminmelding uitschakelen als u geen e-mail van de beheerder wilt ontvangen na een nieuwe gebruikersregistratie
- Auto Register beperken alleen om te wijzigen wie alleen voltooide/succesvolle transacties heeft
Wanneer u klaar bent, selecteert u de knop Wijzigingen opslaan. Dat is alles!
Nu op de voorkant van uw site ziet u het afrekenformulier:
It doesn’t add the extra user account login/creation forms that would otherwise be present. If you do want to enable or display these forms, you can go to Downloads » Settings » Payments » Checkout:
Under Show Register/Login Form, you can choose which (if any) of these forms to show at checkout. You can also modify the forms and add custom fields under Downloads » Checkout Forms.
Finally, note that you can not enable guest checkout after you activate Auto Register. Users who aren’t logged in automatically get an account created.
