Today I am thrilled to announce the long-awaited update to our Simple Shipping extension that adds support for the popular Frontend Submissions extension.
With version 2.0 of Simple Shipping, you can now add a Shipping field to the product submission form in Frontend Submissions that allows vendors to specify the domestic and international shipping rates for each of their products. Shipping can be enabled on a per-product basis, allowing you to also create a mixed media marketplace where some products require shipping and others don’t.
Along with being able to specify shipping costs, vendors can also see the shipping info for customer orders and mark items as shipped directly from their vendor dashboard.
Watch the video below for an overview of how the setup works:
Answers to common questions:
1. Does Simple Shipping work with the Marketify theme?
Yes it does. The Simple Shipping extension has been fully tested with Marketify by both the Easy Digital Downloads team and the Astoundify team to ensure it’s 100% compatible.
2. Can vendors see customer shipping info?
Yes they can from the Orders tab of the Vendor Dashboard.
3. Can vendors send customers tracking numbers for shipped items?
There is not yet a specific process for it, but vendors could easily email their customers the info. We will be adding a standard system for entering tracking info in the near future.
4. Can vendors set the shipping rates separate for each product?
Yes, the domestic and international shipping rates are set on a per-product basis.
5. Can vendors modify the shipping rate after a product is published?
Yes, the shipping rate can be adjusted.
6. Do customers get notified automatically when an item is marked as shipped?
Not at this time but it is on our immediate todo list.
7. Is there support for external shipping APIs like EasyPost to calculate exact shipping fees?
Not at this time but it is definitely on the roadmap.

Sweet !
Can I set free shipping by default?
I just want the vendors to see the address after payment is made.
Also can the customer choose a delivery date ?
It doesn’t support free shipping, sorry, but that is something I want to add in.
No, there’s not yet a delivery date mechanism.
Will this version also calculate tax based on shipping address and not billing address? This is the norm for calculating taxes on online physical product purchases.
No, tax is always based on the billing address.
Why? This is not the norm. See policies from big retailers.

http://www.gap.com/customerService/info.do?cid=81265&cs=place_an_order
Amazon and GAP are not “normal” ecommerce retailers. Because they have physical warehouses in the affected states, they have to do their calculations differently. The rules for large retailers with warehouses and standard all non brick and mortar ecommerce stores are completely different.
Tax calculation is always based on the billing address for stores that do not maintain a physical presence.
Where is there documentation for this?
Even this article about kickstarter and sales tax from an actual CPA , mentions tax is based on where goods are shipped.

I’m inclined to agree with you etoile03.
I’ll see if I can get an update out to account for that.
I’ve noticed that even when the shipping is not marked as required the submission form won’t allow a vendor to leave the domestic and international shipping cost empty.
Also if a vendor doesn’t want to ship internationally, and they try to leave the international shipping field blank (so as not to add it as an option) it won’t allow them to do that.
Can you please explain how to allow only domestic shipping on items, and how to allow items that do not require shipping to not have to fill in the shipping prices.
Pippin awesome work!
For the next update; being able to define specific shipping costs per continent/nation/region/city would be a huge plus for vendors wanting accurate domestic and international calculations.
(I wish you were around 5 years ago when I attempted my first faux etsy multi vendor startup).
Keep up the good work!!!
Great news. Thanks.
Hi,
Is it possible to setup flat rate shipping, instead of per product?
No, sorry.
Hello, may i use this in marketify theme for sell physical products?
Yes you can
Hi there ! great work !!
Shipping must have a “Free Shipping” option, it becomes the norm nowadays.
I would be devastated 🙂 to mess with your code just to get a “Free Shipping” option.
Can that be done soon ? last comment regarding this issue was in May.
Will really help us all and increase sales for you.
Jake
Hi Jake,
We don’t support it at this time but I will definitely consider adding it in the future.
Looking to switch to EDD given more and more of our products will be digital downloads. Still have a few shippable products and wonder if there’s a way to use Simply Shipping to create an email per order (containing shippable product) to our fulfillment house so they can pick-and-ship order?
Not out of the box, sorry, but it could certainly be built with custom development.
Define specific shipping costs per CITY is HUGELY needed for my type of marketplace!!!
Also will be there a way to set a specific delivery date? It’s crusial for me too!!
I’m sorry but those are not supported in this plugin. Easy Digital Downloads is designed for selling digital products, and Simple Shipping is designed to provide very basic shipping features for those that wish to sell a simple physical product along with their digital goods.
Hello,
It would really be great to have the option (not to say crucial) for us to have free shipping included. I’m eagerly waiting for it -any news on a date when this will be available. Thankful for a response asap.
I’ve noticed that even when the shipping is not marked as required as mentioned in your video, the submission form won’t allow a vendor to leave the domestic and international shipping cost empty. Is this a bug or have I done something wrong?
Also if a vendor doesn’t want to ship internationally, and they try to leave the international shipping field blank (so as not to add it as an option) it won’t allow them to do that. Can I only offer domestic shipping if vendors do not want to sell to international customers?
Can you please explain how to allow only domestic shipping on items, and how to allow items that do not require shipping to not have to fill in the shipping prices.
Hi Joseph,
Can you please open a support ticket? We should be able to help get to the bottom of it. https://easydigitaldownloads.com/support/
Thanks.
ive got 2 tickets open already, with no help so far. Im really stuggling to get some support for your plugins. I need help setting up subscription options in the Front end submissions vendor registration form with restrict content pro.
I bought the wrong plugin by mistake, “Recurring Payments” When I really needed “Paypal Adaptive Payments” Can I please swap it, or if there is a price difference at least get a refund on the one I dont need so I can put it toward the Paypal Adaprive payments plugin.
Your simple shipping plugin isnt working properly either and I just need some support, please.
Hi Joseph,
I’m showing one ticket open from you through pippinsplugins.com regarding Restrict Content Pro. It will be addressed later today.
There are no tickets showing up (for this email address) about Simple Shipping or Recurring Payments.
Could you please open one now or tell me the other email address you used?
Hi Pippin, Thanks for the reply I appreciate it, it might have been sent via my phone, so it could be from (please dont show this publicly)
LICENSE AND EMAIL REDACTED
It seems that I now also need to buy your Paypal Adaptive Payments plugin. Please could you refund the recurring payments plugin that I dont need (I will delete it) for me so I can buy the other one.
( When I bought the marketify theme, I wasnt expecting to have to buy any additional plugins and have so far had to buy several hundreds of dollars worth to try and get it working. )
This is a public comment stream so I have removed the license and emails.
Please go ahead and open a new ticket now and we’ll get it sorted out for you.
Note: you will be sent a confirmation email after the ticket is submitted. If you do NOT receive a confirmation, the ticket has not gone through (perhaps because of a typo in the email address).
Would really like to have free shipping in this plugin as we’re using it. I see there’s been talk of it since early 2014. Would you consider adding this soon?
We don’t have any timeframe for when that might be added, sorry.
hi
i need free shipping as well, but why i just cannot leave the costs are empty and the extension gets it that is free shipping ?
it doesnt allow me to add downloads if i’m not enabling the shipping please advice @pippin
thank you
Are you using the plugin with Frontend Submissions?
Yes i do
OK at this time that won’t be supported, sorry. We have had other requests for it though we it’s definitely on our todo list.
Hello Pippin, I posted my long list of questions, as instructed by Adam, on ThemeForest.net. I was also in touch with you via Twitter and you confirmed that my comments should be answered within 1 day. It has been 7 days now, without any answer, and now my comment has disappeared from the list altogether.
Since those answers were crucial to me, I have been unable to make any progress in 7 days, waiting for your reply. I am a non techy and those questions are crucial to me to understand, whether Marketify will work for me or not.
I would really appreciate if you or one of you could just answer my questions without directing me to another website.
1. Physical products
I am looking to allow multiple vendors to sell physical products, and only physical products, no digital product. Is that possible with Marketify and Simple Shipping?
I have read ALL the comments on the support page but I find the answers always vary. Sometimes the reply to a users question is ‘Yes, you can use it to sell physical products’ and other times it say ‘You can use Simple Shipping to sell physical products along side with digital products’. Can you please clarify.
2. Update Marketify 2.0
When is it coming and does the update allow a fully functional marketplace for physical products only by any chance?
3. Hosting space
I have read through the hosting options provided but since I am a non-techy, I dont know how to choose the best server. Could you recommend a server hosting company based on what I am planning to do: Marketplace for physical products only, sold by multiple vendors, uploading product photos, up to 1000 vendors.
4. Easy Digital Downloads, Simple Shipping and ‘Install for $50’
Assuming that I can use Marketify to sell physical products only, I would like to make use of the service to get in installed for $50. Do I also need to download Easy Digital Downloads? Would the people who install the theme consider setting up Easy Digital Downloads and Simple Shipping for the $50?
5. Logo dimensions
When using the ‘Install for $50’ it says upload your logo, but what are the dimensions or file type please?
6. Blog
Does Marketify come with a free blog template I can use? It looks like it on the demo.
Really hope to get clarification so that I can either start purchasing everything to get set up, or look for a different theme.
Thanks so much,
Kris
Kristin,
I’ve just emailed you answers to these. Please see my responses there and sorry again about the mishap that caused your questions to be missed.
