Cool! This sounds like the idea I suggested! Just one thing though. I keep all my music files in a different folder. Will it work with those?
By a different folder do you mean they’re not available through the WP Media library?
Yes. They used to be in a folder outside the root of the site, but I had to move it to within the root to enable me to access it from EDD. It is still outside of Wordpress though.
Ah, no, sorry that won’t work for this. This enhancement requires that the files be inside of the WordPress media library.

In Virtuemart, you add the path to the downloads folder (which can be anywhere on any server), and it automatically lists all the files within that folder. Then you can select multiple files from that folder for download.
I don’t want to risk putting all my saleable downlaods into the media folder as the location of the uploads folder is common knowledge. All levels from Author upward can view its contents.
Perhaps you’ll consider it as a future update?
I do like the idea of allowing custom browseable folder locations and will certainly consider it.
